Question: What is the best way to surge test a transformer?

ST103/106/206, ST112/212, ST115/165, MT165/265, D6000/12000, D15000/DS215, D165/DS265, D24000/DS224, D30000/DS230, PP30D, D185/285, AWA series 2 and 3

Answer: The rule of thumb is quite simple, even with complex multi tap designs:

Short out any taps not connected to the Baker test Leads with jumpers. This will eliminate any possible step up/coupling effects. Any time the primary winding is tested, the secondary windings must be shorted and vice-versa.
