Question:

The CRT screen on the Baker D12R/D6R will re-boot, and then the Baker self-test will run.  All tests indicated "Passed" yet the CRT will still re-boot at random times.  The baker Instrument works well otherwise.  What gives?

Answer:

A problem with the D12R that could cause this is the +5V DC power supply may be sagging.  It it is sagging the CPU will be susceptible to random reset conditions.  This model of equipment incorporates a timer that polls the CPU for activity.  If the timer is not detecting CPU activity it will send a reset signal to the CPU to "wake it up".  This is the reboot condition. If the 5V power supply is too low, this may be what is happening.

To correct for this problem, the +5V power supply should be adjusted.  The best way to accomplish this is to remove the top cover of the D12R.  You will see the power supply in the unit behind the CRT display. (Indicated below)

A digital multi-meter will allow accurate adjustment.  Take a measurement of DC voltage between the brown wire and The chassis (green/yellow) ground wire.  You should measure 5.1 to 5.3 VDC.  This is the supply voltage for the CRT functions.  If the voltage is too low (4.5-4.9 VDC)
