Question: What network interface cards are supported for my AWA?

Answer: The AWA testers manufactured between 1997 and mid 2002, had a free slot in their computer card cage, which could be used to add a network interface card. Units manufactured after 2002 have built in Ethernet ports.

The computer card cage of the AWA testers uses the 8 or 16 bit ISA passive back-plane to handle computer I/O.

Baker Instrument Company certifies the NETGEAR EA201C as tested and fully functional with the AWA.

Other manufacturers cards may or may not work. If they are Windows NT 4.0 compliant they will most likely operate correctly. Windows 95 or 98 compliant NIC should not be installed. The drivers may corrupt the machine to the point it is no longer operational.

Tips for installation:

 1)      Make sure the BIOS of the computer has plug and play aware OS turned ‘OFF’ for Windows NT 4.0 workstation

 2)      It may be required to uninstall all Windows NT 4.0 workstation service packs to enable the network interface. They may interfere with initialization of the NIC if the network card is not installed and configured at the service pack 1 level.
